Disaster Recovery?

As previously noted, our water leak was fixed on Monday.

The Disaster ~~Recovery~~ Creation Company arrived on Tuesday. Their job is to dry everything out and check for mold. Unfortunately that turned out to be a pretty destructive project. When I left for work on Tuesday morning, the house had carpeting, laminate flooring, and baseboards all around.

By the time I got home from work on Tuesday, several of our baseboards were removed, there was a dehumidifier in our kitchen, and four green fans blowing air at high speed under the carpet and into our walls.

After letting everything run for 24hrs, the crew returned on Wednesday. By the time I got home today, most of our laminate flooring was removed.

So now most of our floor is bare concrete. The company comes out again tomorrow morning to check (and probably remove) the floor in the laundry room. Hopefully by tomorrow afternoon the fans will all be removed and everything will be dry. I can live with concrete floors for a while, but these fans are so loud that it's like being in an airplane when you go anywhere downstairs.

The good news is, they didn't find any mold!

Next step is getting a drywall contractor to start patching the walls.

We have running water again!

Last Tuesday, March 16th, Tami woke up and stepped into wet carpeting when she went downstairs in the morning.

At first she thought the kids must have spilled something, but it turned out we had a leak UNDER the foundation of the house and behind a wall that sits between our living room and kitchen area. She caught the leak pretty early, but it still damaged both the carpeting AND the laminate floor downstairs.

A leak detection company came out to locate the source of the problem. Unfortunately we were not able to fix the problem by cutting into the slab and replacing the busted pipe because we have a Post Tension Slab and our insurance company won't allow cutting into a post tension slab.

So the only way to fix the problem was to cap the section of pipe that was leaking (cutting off water to the upstairs bathrooms).

Once the leaky pipe was capped, a new 3/4 copper pipe had to be routed from the kitchen to the upstairs bathrooms.

The plumbers started the job around 8:30am on Monday, March 22, and finished by around 5:30pm.

The "Disaster Recovery" team comes next. They'll be at the house today at 3pm with fans and a dehumidifier to dry out the walls and floor. Once everything is dry, we patch up the walls, re-paint, and re-floor.

I think the idea is you can 'click' on the above picture and see all 8 of the shots I took while they were fixing the 'settling' that took place on our home. Still to be resolved is the resetting of the floor (buckled in spots) and then the repair of the floor cover caused by the aforementioned. :o(
